Explanation of the Verse:
When Prophet Yusuf (peace be upon him) found himself trapped in a moment of immense temptation and trial — with the door closed and the wife of the powerful Egyptian official calling him to sin — he did not rely on his own strength or cleverness. Instead, he turned to his Lord with a sincere and humble supplication, saying: *"My Lord, prison is more beloved to me than that to which they invite me. And if You do not avert from me their plan, I might incline toward them and be among the ignorant."* (Yusuf: 33)
And in this blessed verse, Allah tells us the outcome of that heartfelt prayer: "So his Lord responded to him and turned away from him their plan." Allah, in His infinite mercy and power, answered Yusuf's call immediately. He did not merely delay the harm or lessen it — He completely removed and neutralized the conspiracy of the women. He protected Yusuf from falling into sin, preserved his purity, and saved him from the trap that had been set with such cunning and persistence.
The verse then closes with a profound reminder: "Indeed, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing." This means that Allah hears every supplication made by every servant — whether whispered in the depths of the night or cried out in moments of distress — and He knows precisely what each person needs, what is in their heart, and what will truly benefit them in this life and the next.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear believer, look at the beauty of this divine response! Yusuf (peace be upon him) was a young man, far from his homeland, surrounded by temptation and pressure, yet his sincere turn to Allah was met with immediate divine protection. This teaches us a timeless lesson: no matter how overwhelming the trials of life may seem — whether they are temptations of the soul, plots of enemies, or hardships of circumstance — Allah is always near, always listening, and always capable of turning the greatest plots into nothing.
When you find yourself in a difficult situation, do not despair and do not rely solely on your own planning. Raise your hands to the One who controls all affairs, pour out your heart to Him, and trust that He hears you. The same Allah who saved Yusuf from the conspiracy of powerful women is the One who is with you today. He is Al-Samīʿ, who hears your every whisper, and Al-ʿAlīm, who knows your every need even before you ask.
Let this verse fill your heart with hope and strengthen your connection with your Lord. Make duʿā' (supplication) a constant companion in your life, for it is the key that opens the doors of divine help and protection. And remember: just as Allah answered His righteous servant Yusuf, He will answer you too — in the way that is best for you, at the time that is best for you, and with what is truly best for you. So never stop calling upon Him, and never doubt that His response is always on its way.
