Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- ʿazīz (عزيز): Here it means "difficult," "hard," or "impossible to achieve." In this context, it denotes something that is beyond one's power or capability.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse comes as a powerful conclusion to the preceding verses, where Allah reminds humanity of His absolute sovereignty over all creation. The verse states: "And that is not difficult for Allah" — meaning that replacing you with another creation, or destroying you and bringing forth a new people who obey Him, is not a matter of any difficulty or strain for Him whatsoever.
The meaning is clear: Allah, the Exalted, is not incapable of destroying you and bringing forth a new creation in your place. This is not something that would overwhelm Him or present any challenge to His infinite power. Rather, it is utterly easy and effortless for Him. He simply says to a thing "Be," and it is. His command is instantaneous, and His power knows no limits.
This verse serves as a stern yet merciful warning — a reminder that human existence is not a necessity for Allah, but rather a favor and a trust. If people turn away from His guidance and persist in disbelief, He is fully able to replace them with others who will worship Him and follow His messengers. This is a call to reflection: our position in this world is not guaranteed; it is conditional upon our obedience and gratitude.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, ponder deeply upon this profound truth. The One who created the heavens and the earth, who set the sun and moon in their courses, who sustains every living being — is He unable to bring forth another people if you turn away? Certainly not! This verse instills in the believer's heart both hope and humility. Hope, because it reminds us that Allah's power is boundless, and His mercy is vast — He can forgive, transform, and elevate anyone He wills. Humility, because it reminds us that our existence is a gift, not a right. We must cherish this gift by living in obedience to our Creator.
Let this verse be a wake-up call to every soul: Allah does not need us, but we are in desperate need of Him. The door of repentance is open, and His mercy embraces all who turn back to Him. Do not delay — for He is able to replace you, but He is also able to forgive you and raise you to the highest ranks. Choose the path that leads to His pleasure, and you will find that His power works in your favor, not against you.
