Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Mustaqdimīn (المستقدمين): Those who have gone before — referring to all who have passed away from the beginning of creation, from the time of Prophet Adam (peace be upon him) until now.
- Al-Musta'kharīn (المستأخرين): Those who come later — referring to all who are alive now and all who will be born until the Day of Resurrection.
Tafsir (Explanation):
Allah, the All-Knowing, declares that He has complete and perfect knowledge of every single soul that has ever lived or will ever live. He knows those who have preceded us — every generation from Adam (peace be upon him) down to the present moment — and He knows every soul that will come after, until the very last day of this world. Nothing is hidden from Him: not the time of anyone's birth, nor the time of their death, nor their deeds, nor their destinies.
This verse is a profound reminder of Allah's absolute and all-encompassing knowledge. He is not only aware of humanity as a collective, but He knows each individual intimately — their struggles, their intentions, their triumphs, and their failures. No one slips from His awareness for even the blink of an eye.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, ponder this beautiful truth: the Creator of the heavens and the earth knows *you* personally. He knew you before you were born, and He knows every moment of your life — past, present, and future. This knowledge is not cold or distant; it is the knowledge of a Merciful Lord who watches over His creation with love and wisdom.
If you are among those who have gone astray, know that Allah still knows you and awaits your return. His door of repentance is open. If you are among those striving to do good, take comfort — Allah sees your efforts, and nothing you do in His cause is ever lost. He will reward you perfectly, for He knows the weight of every deed, even the size of an atom.
This verse also carries a gentle warning: since Allah knows all — the early generations and the later ones — He will call everyone to account. No one will escape His justice, and no one will be deprived of His mercy. So let this knowledge draw you closer to Him. Live your life knowing that you are always in His sight, and let that awareness transform your actions into acts of worship, filled with sincerity and hope.
