Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Tasbiq (تَسْبِقُ): To precede or go ahead of something.
  • Ajalaha (أَجَلَهَا): Its appointed term or fixed time (of destruction or death).
  • Yasta'khirun (يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ): To be delayed or postponed beyond that term.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse establishes a profound and unshakable truth about the divine order of the universe: no nation or community can ever hasten its appointed end, nor can it delay it even for a single moment. When Allah — in His infinite wisdom — decrees a fixed term for a people, that term is absolute and immutable. It cannot be brought forward by any force, nor can it be pushed back by any plea or effort.

The verse serves as a powerful reminder that the fate of nations rests entirely in the Hands of Allah alone. No human power, no matter how mighty, can alter what Allah has decreed. This applies not only to the destruction of past nations but also to the lives of individuals — every soul has its appointed time, and nothing can change it.

For the wrongdoers and oppressors, this verse carries a particularly important lesson: they should never be deceived by the apparent delay in punishment. When Allah grants them respite, it is not because He is unaware or negligent — it is a test and an opportunity for them to repent. But when the appointed time arrives, there will be no escape and no postponement.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, this verse invites you to contemplate the precision and perfection of Allah's decree. Just as the sun rises and sets at its appointed time, and the seasons change in their due order, so too does every matter in this universe follow the exact timing set by the All-Wise Creator. This should fill your heart with tranquility and trust in Allah — for nothing in your life happens by chance, and everything is part of a greater divine plan.

At the same time, let this verse be a wake-up call. Do not live your life as if you have unlimited time, for your appointed hour is known only to Allah. Seize this precious moment to draw closer to your Creator, to mend your relationship with Him, and to do good deeds that will benefit you in this life and the Hereafter. The door of repentance is open — do not wait until it is too late.

Remember, Allah's mercy is vast, and His forgiveness is greater than your sins. But His decree is also certain. So hasten to goodness, and never be among those who are deceived by the temporary delays of this world.

📜 Verse 3-7 — Al-Hijr

Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know.
And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree.
No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter.
And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad.
Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?"
