Word Meanings:

  • Zabūr (الزَّبُور): The holy scripture revealed to Prophet David (Dāwūd), peace be upon him. It is a book of wisdom, hymns, and praise, distinct from the Torah and the Gospel.

Explanation of the Verse:

Your Lord, O Prophet, knows perfectly everyone who dwells in the heavens and the earth — their conditions, their ranks, and what they truly deserve. Nothing is hidden from His knowledge, and His wisdom in granting favors is absolute.

And indeed, We have favored some prophets over others, elevating certain of them with distinctions and honors. We chose Ibrāhīm (Abraham) for His intimate friendship, Mūsā (Moses) for His direct speech, and Muhammad (peace be upon him) for the Ascension to the heavens. And We granted Dāwūd (David) the Zabūr — a blessed scripture filled with wisdom and praise — as a special honor for him.

This verse also carries a gentle rebuke to those who acknowledged the superiority of some prophets yet denied the excellence of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). If they truly accepted that Allah raises some prophets above others, why would they reject the final and greatest of them all — the one who was honored with the Qur’an and the Night Journey?

A Call to Reflection:

This verse invites us to contemplate the boundless wisdom of Allah in His distribution of favors. Just as He chose some prophets for special honors, He chose Muhammad (peace be upon him) as the seal of all prophets and the mercy to all worlds. Let this be a reminder for us to embrace the truth with an open heart, to love all of Allah’s prophets equally, and to recognize the unparalleled station of our beloved Messenger. For in knowing their ranks, we come to appreciate the greatness of the One who sent them — and we draw closer to Him with humility and gratitude.

📜 Verse 53-57 — Al-Isra

And tell My servants to say that which is best. Indeed, Satan induces [dissension] among them. Indeed Satan is ever, to mankind, a clear enemy.
Your Lord is most knowing of you. If He wills, He will have mercy upon you; or if He wills, He will punish you. And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], over them as a manager.
And your Lord is most knowing of whoever is in the heavens and the earth. And We have made some of the prophets exceed others [in various ways], and to David We gave the book [of Psalms].
Say, "Invoke those you have claimed [as gods] besides Him, for they do not possess the [ability for] removal of adversity from you or [for its] transfer [to someone else]."
Those whom they invoke seek means of access to their Lord, [striving as to] which of them would be nearest, and they hope for His mercy and fear His punishment. Indeed, the punishment of your Lord is ever feared.
