Key Words and Phrases:

  • A'ma (أَعْمَىٰ): Blind. In this context, it refers to blindness of the heart and insight, not physical sight. It means being unable to perceive the truth, heed the signs of God, or recognise the path of guidance.
  • Al-Akhirah (الْآخِرَةِ): The Hereafter; the Day of Judgment and the eternal life that follows.
  • Adallu Sabeelan (أَضَلُّ سَبِيلًا): Further astray in terms of the path; more lost and distant from the right way.

Explanation of the Verse:

This noble verse draws a profound and sobering connection between a person's state in this worldly life and their state in the Hereafter. Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) tells us that whoever is blind in this world—meaning blind of heart, unable to see the clear signs of God's power and wisdom, refusing to accept the truth brought by the Messengers, and turning away from the light of faith and guidance—then such a person will be blind in the Hereafter as well.

This blindness in the Hereafter is even more severe and complete. On the Day of Judgment, when the truth is fully manifest and every soul sees the reality of its deeds, this person will be utterly unable to find the path to Paradise. They will be even more lost and distant from the way of salvation and righteousness than they were in this life. This is a perfect example of divine justice: the recompense is of the same kind as the deed. Just as they chose blindness in the world, refusing to see the truth when they had the chance, they will be left in a state of blindness and misguidance in the Hereafter.

It is crucial to understand that this blindness is not of the eyes, but of the heart and the inner vision. A person may have perfect physical sight yet be truly blind to the purpose of their existence, to the signs of Allah in the universe, and to the guidance of His revelation. Conversely, a person may be physically blind yet possess a heart that sees with the light of faith.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, this verse is a gentle yet powerful wake-up call. It reminds us that our time in this world is the only opportunity we have to open our hearts to the truth. The signs of Allah are all around us—in the heavens and the earth, in our own creation, and in the wisdom of the Qur'an. Do not let your heart become blind to them. Open your inner eyes today, embrace the light of faith, and follow the path that leads to eternal success. For whoever sees the truth in this life and follows it will, by the mercy of Allah, see clearly in the next life and be guided to the eternal bliss of Paradise. Let this verse inspire you to seek knowledge, to reflect, and to draw closer to your Creator, for He has not left you without guidance—He has sent you the clearest of lights.

📜 Verse 70-74 — Al-Isra

And We have certainly honored the children of Adam and carried them on the land and sea and provided for them of the good things and preferred them over much of what We have created, with [definite] preference.
[Mention, O Muhammad], the Day We will call forth every people with their record [of deeds]. Then whoever is given his record in his right hand - those will read their records, and injustice will not be done to them, [even] as much as a thread [inside the date seed].
And whoever is blind in this [life] will be blind in the Hereafter and more astray in way.
And indeed, they were about to tempt you away from that which We revealed to you in order to [make] you invent about Us something else; and then they would have taken you as a friend.
And if We had not strengthened you, you would have almost inclined to them a little.
