Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Sunnah (سُنَّةَ): The established, unchanging practice or way of Allah in dealing with His creation.
- Taḥwīl (تَحْوِيلًا): A change, alteration, or transformation.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse establishes a profound and unshakable divine law that has governed the fate of nations throughout history. Allah informs His beloved Messenger ﷺ that the very same Sunnah—the consistent, unalterable way of Allah—that was applied to the messengers who came before him, is also applied to him.
What is this Sunnah? It is that when a people expel their messenger from their midst, or reject him to the point of driving him out, or even kill him, then Allah's decree of destruction and punishment descends upon them. This was the fate of nations like ʿĀd, Thamūd, and the people of Shuʿayb—when they drove their prophets away or harmed them, Allah's wrath overtook them, and they were utterly destroyed.
The verse then delivers a decisive, comforting, and awe-inspiring message to the Prophet ﷺ: "And you will never find in Our Sunnah any change." This means that Allah's promise is absolute and without exception. There is no alteration, no delay, and no deviation from this divine rule. If the disbelievers of Makkah expelled the Prophet ﷺ from his homeland, then their destruction was inevitable and guaranteed.
This is not merely a historical observation; it is a living, breathing reality that continues to this day. Whenever a community or a people reject the truth, expel its carriers, or oppose the messengers of Allah in any era, the same divine law applies. The victory of truth is certain, and the downfall of falsehood is inevitable.
A Daʿwah Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect deeply on this verse. It is a source of immense strength and certainty for every believer. When you see the enemies of Islam plotting, expelling, or persecuting the righteous, know that Allah's Sunnah has not changed and will never change. The end of falsehood is destruction, and the end of truth is triumph.
Let this verse fill your heart with hope and firmness. Hold fast to your faith, stand with the truth, and never fear the power of the disbelievers. For the One who established this Sunnah is the All-Powerful, the All-Wise, and His promise is true. And what a beautiful promise it is—that the oppressors will be vanquished, and the believers will be granted victory, whether in this world or in the Hereafter. So be patient, be steadfast, and place your complete trust in Allah. His way never changes, and His help is always near.
