Tafsir (Explanation):
O Messenger, warn your people and all of humanity of the Day of Hasrah — the Day of bitter regret and overwhelming sorrow. That is the Day of Resurrection, when the final decree is issued and the matter is settled once and for all. The scrolls of deeds are folded, the scales of justice are set, and every soul is sent to its eternal abode: the people of faith to Paradise, and the people of disbelief to the Fire. On that Day, the wrongdoer will bitterly regret every sin he committed, and even the righteous will wish they had done more good deeds. The Prophet (peace be upon him) described that the Angel of Death will be brought in the form of a white ram, and it will be slaughtered, making it clear that death itself has come to an end — and then the eternal life begins, with no second chance.
Yet, despite the certainty of this Day, these people are today lost in heedlessness. They are distracted by the fleeting pleasures of this world, lulled into a false sense of security, and they do not believe in the coming judgment. They neither affirm it in their hearts nor act upon it in their deeds. They go on with their lives as if they will never die, as if they will never stand before their Lord.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, pause for a moment. This verse is not merely a warning to a people long gone — it is a message to you and me, right here and now. The Day of Regret is real, and it is closer than we think. Every breath we take brings us nearer to that moment when the matter will be decided and no plea will be heard. Do not let yourself be among those who are heedless today and regretful tomorrow. Open your heart to faith, turn to your Lord in sincere repentance, and fill your days with deeds that will light your path on that dark and momentous Day. The doors of mercy are wide open now — knock before they close forever. Let today be the day you choose Paradise over regret, and faith over heedlessness.
