Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Mulk (مُلْكُ): Sovereignty, absolute ownership, and full authority to govern and dispose of affairs.
- Waliyy (وَلِيّ): A protector, guardian, or ally who takes charge of your affairs and defends you.
- Naseer (نَصِير): A helper or supporter who comes to your aid and shields you from harm.
Explanation of the Verse:
Have you not come to know, O Prophet, and has it not become clear to you and to your nation, that Allah alone holds the complete and absolute sovereignty over the heavens and the earth? He is the sole Owner and Disposer of all that exists. He does whatever He wills, commands His servants as He pleases, and prohibits them from what He wills. He establishes His divine laws and abrogates them according to His infinite wisdom, and upon His servants is the duty of submission and acceptance.
This verse carries a profound message of reassurance for the believers and a stern warning for the disbelievers. For those who obey Allah, it is a comfort to know that their affairs are in the hands of the Most Merciful, the Most Just. For those who turn away in disobedience, it is a reminder that there is no escape from His authority.
And know this clearly: besides Allah, you have no protector who can take charge of your affairs, and no helper who can defend you or shield you from His punishment. On the Day when the punishment descends, no relative, no close friend, and no ally will be able to intercede for you or save you from what Allah has decreed. All power, all protection, and all help rest solely with Allah — the One who is fully capable of granting victory to His righteous servants and bringing justice upon the wrongdoers.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect deeply on this truth: the heavens and the earth, with all their vastness and beauty, belong to Allah alone. He is the King who never dies, the Owner who never loses His property, and the Judge whose decree none can overturn. When you truly internalize this, your heart finds peace, for you know that your ultimate reliance is on the One who never fails. Turn to Him in all your affairs, seek His help alone, and place your trust in Him. For whoever places their trust in Allah, He is sufficient for them. And whoever seeks protection from others besides Him, will find that those others are themselves in need of protection. So be among those who say: "Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs."
