Word Meanings:

  • "Naṣīb" (نَصِيب): A share, portion, or reward.
  • "Mimmā kasabū" (مِمَّا كَسَبُوا): From what they earned or acquired — referring to their deeds, including their supplication, which is itself counted as an act of worship and thus a "earning" of reward.
  • "Sarīʿu al-Ḥisāb" (سَرِيعُ الْحِسَاب): Swift in reckoning — meaning Allah takes account of His servants' deeds with perfect speed and precision, faster than the blink of an eye.

Explanation of the Verse:

This blessed verse comes as a direct response to the sincere supplication of the believers who ask their Lord for goodness in this world and the Hereafter, and for protection from the torment of the Fire. Allah, the Most High, assures them that they shall not be disappointed. Those who call upon their Lord with such comprehensive and sincere words — combining the pursuit of worldly well-being with the ultimate goal of eternal success — will receive a generous share of reward for what they have earned through their righteous deeds. Their supplication itself is counted as a deed, for it is an act of worship that reflects their faith, humility, and reliance upon their Creator.

The verse then concludes with a profound reassurance: "And Allah is swift in reckoning." This means that Allah's accounting of His servants' deeds is not delayed or hindered by time or space. He knows every action, every word, and every intention, and He will reward or recompense each soul with perfect justice and speed — faster than the twinkling of an eye. No good deed, however small, will be lost, and no sincere prayer will go unanswered.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear believer, let this verse fill your heart with hope and tranquility. Your Lord is not neglectful of your efforts, nor is He slow to respond. Every tear you shed in supplication, every step you take toward goodness, and every word of dhikr you utter is recorded and will be rewarded. The One who created you knows your struggles and your aspirations. So turn to Him with a sincere heart, ask Him for the good of this world and the Hereafter, and trust that His reckoning is swift and His reward is immense. Let this beautiful duʿā' from Surah Al-Baqarah become your constant companion: *"Our Lord, give us in this world good, and in the Hereafter good, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire."* For those who say this with faith and act upon it with sincerity, the promise of Allah is certain: they shall have a generous share of what they have earned — and Allah is indeed swift in reckoning.

📜 Verse 200-204 — Al-Baqarah

And when you have completed your rites, remember Allah like your [previous] remembrance of your fathers or with [much] greater remembrance. And among the people is he who says, "Our Lord, give us in this world," and he will have in the Hereafter no share.
But among them is he who says, "Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire."
Those will have a share of what they have earned, and Allah is swift in account.
And remember Allah during [specific] numbered days. Then whoever hastens [his departure] in two days - there is no sin upon him; and whoever delays [until the third] - there is no sin upon him - for him who fears Allah. And fear Allah and know that unto Him you will be gathered.
And of the people is he whose speech pleases you in worldly life, and he calls Allah to witness as to what is in his heart, yet he is the fiercest of opponents.
