Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- يُصْهَرُ (Yus-haru): It means to be melted or dissolved, like metal melting under intense heat.
- مَا فِي بُطُونِهِمْ (Ma fi butunihim): What is in their bellies, including fats, intestines, and internal organs.
- وَالْجُلُودُ (Wal-julood): And the skins (of their bodies).
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse paints a terrifying yet vivid picture of the punishment awaiting the disbelievers in Hellfire. It describes how boiling water—scalding beyond any earthly heat—is poured over their heads. This water does not merely burn the surface; it penetrates deep into their bodies, melting everything inside their bellies, such as fats and organs, just as metal melts in a furnace. Then it reaches their skins, causing them to dissolve and fall away. This is not a single moment of torment but a continuous, overwhelming agony that targets every part of their being—inside and out.
The verse follows the description of the disbelievers being clothed in garments of fire, with this boiling water poured upon their heads as an additional layer of punishment. It emphasizes the totality of their suffering: no part of them is spared, and their own bodies become the very site of their destruction. This is a direct consequence of their rejection of the truth and their arrogance before their Lord.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This vivid imagery is not meant to frighten us into despair, but to awaken our hearts to the reality of accountability. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has given us this life as a test—a chance to turn back to Him, to seek His forgiveness, and to embrace His guidance. The torment described here is reserved for those who persist in disbelief and wrongdoing despite clear warnings. But for the believers, there is a different promise: gardens of bliss, rivers of pure water, and the pleasure of their Lord. Let this verse remind us of the urgency of repentance and the beauty of choosing the path of faith. Every moment we have is an opportunity to draw closer to Allah, to soften our hearts with His remembrance, and to live a life that leads us to His eternal mercy. Do not let this warning pass you by—let it be the spark that ignites a sincere return to your Creator, for His door of forgiveness is always open.
