Surah Al-Mu'minun — Verse 28

Tafsir (Explanation):

When you, O Prophet Noah, and the believers with you have safely settled and mounted upon the ark, and you have escaped the overwhelming flood that drowned the disbelievers, then you are commanded to utter words of gratitude and praise to Allah. Say: "All praise and thanks are due to Allah alone, who has delivered us from the oppressive people"—those who denied His signs, wronged themselves through their stubborn disbelief, and sought to harm His messengers. This is a profound lesson in turning to Allah with heartfelt appreciation at the moment of salvation, acknowledging that all safety, success, and deliverance come solely from His mercy and power.

This verse teaches us that gratitude is not merely a feeling but a verbal and spiritual act of worship. When Allah grants you relief from hardship—whether it be from a physical danger, an emotional trial, or a spiritual crisis—your tongue should immediately move with praise, and your heart should be filled with humility before Him. Notice how Prophet Noah did not credit his own skill or the strength of the ark; he attributed the rescue entirely to Allah. This is the hallmark of true faith: recognizing that every blessing, no matter how small or great, flows from the hands of the Most Merciful.

Moreover, this command carries a timeless message for every believer. In your daily life, when you board a vehicle, travel a long journey, recover from illness, or escape a difficult situation, remember to say: "Alhamdulillah" (praise be to Allah) for His protection. Such gratitude not only strengthens your bond with your Creator but also opens the doors for more blessings, as Allah promises in the Qur'an: "If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]" (14:7).
