Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • Al-Rasul (الرَّسُولُ): The Messenger, referring to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
  • Qawmi (قَوْمِي): My people — specifically the Quraysh, and by extension, all those to whom he was sent.
  • Ittakhadhu (اتَّخَذُوا): They took, adopted, or treated something as.
  • Mahjooran (مَهْجُورًا): Abandoned, forsaken, neglected, or left aside — from the root *hajara*, meaning to leave or desert something.

Explanation of the Verse:

On the Day of Judgment, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) will stand before his Lord and present a heartfelt complaint against his own people. He will say: *"O my Lord, indeed my people have taken this Qur'an as something abandoned."* This means they did not merely reject it — they actively neglected it, turned away from its recitation, refused to ponder its meanings, failed to implement its commands, and did not convey its message to others. They treated the Qur'an as if it were a forgotten relic, left on the shelf, unopened and unheeded.

The verse highlights the profound grief of the Messenger, not for himself, but for his nation's loss. The Qur'an was sent as a mercy, a guide, and a light — yet his people chose to ignore it, preferring their own desires and worldly distractions over the divine revelation. This complaint is not one of anger or revenge, but of deep sorrow and compassion, as the Prophet saw his people straying from the path of salvation.

This verse serves as a powerful warning to every generation of Muslims: neglecting the Qur'an — whether by not reading it, not understanding it, not acting upon it, or not calling others to it — is a grave sin. The Prophet himself will testify against those who abandon the Book of Allah.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear brother and sister in Islam, let this verse awaken your heart! The Qur'an is not a book to be adorned on shelves or recited only on special occasions — it is a living guide for every moment of your life. When you open it, Allah speaks to you. When you ponder it, your faith grows. When you act upon it, your life transforms. And when you share it, you become a source of guidance for others.

Do not let the Qur'an be a stranger in your home or your heart. Make it your companion in the morning and your comfort in the evening. Read it with reflection, memorize it with love, and implement it with sincerity. For on that Day, the Qur'an will either be a witness for you or against you. Choose now to be among those who honor it, so that it may intercede for you and lead you to the highest gardens of Paradise.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) will not complain about those who cherished the Qur'an — rather, he will rejoice in them. Be among the ones who bring joy to his heart and honor to his message. Let the Qur'an be your guide, your light, and your treasure, and you will never be lost.

📜 Verse 28-32 — Al-Furqan

Oh, woe to me! I wish I had not taken that one as a friend.
He led me away from the remembrance after it had come to me. And ever is Satan, to man, a deserter."
And the Messenger has said, "O my Lord, indeed my people have taken this Qur'an as [a thing] abandoned."
And thus have We made for every prophet an enemy from among the criminals. But sufficient is your Lord as a guide and a helper.
And those who disbelieve say, "Why was the Qur'an not revealed to him all at once?" Thus [it is] that We may strengthen thereby your heart. And We have spaced it distinctly.
