- Tubayyinunnahu (لَتُبَيِّنُنَّهُ): You shall surely make it clear and evident to people.
- Taktumūnahu (تَكْتُمُونَهُ): You shall not conceal or hide it.

- Thamanan qalīlan (ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا): A paltry, insignificant price—referring to worldly gains, status, or wealth.
The Interpretation:
O Prophet, remind the people of the moment when Allah took a solemn and binding covenant from the People of the Book—the scholars and learned among the Jews and Christians who were given the Torah and the Gospel. He commanded them to make the contents of these divine scriptures clear to all of humanity, to teach them openly, and never to conceal any part of the truth, especially the prophecies and signs pointing to the coming of Muhammad (peace be upon him). They were entrusted with this sacred knowledge as a trust from Allah, not as a private possession to be manipulated for personal benefit.
Yet, what did they do? They cast this covenant behind their backs, as if throwing away something worthless. They ignored its obligations, twisted the words of their scriptures, and hid the truths that were meant to guide people. In exchange for their betrayal, they accepted a miserable price—some worldly gain, a position of authority, or the fleeting approval of their people. They sold the eternal truth for the cheap, transient goods of this life.
How wretched is that which they purchased for themselves! They traded away the pleasure of Allah, the honor of upholding His word, and the reward of the Hereafter for a handful of dust that will soon vanish. Their loss is immense, and their transaction is the worst of all bargains.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
This verse carries a timeless lesson for every believer, especially those who have been given knowledge of Allah’s Book. Knowledge is a trust, not a treasure to be hoarded. When you learn a verse, a hadith, or a beneficial teaching, you have a duty to share it with others—with wisdom, kindness, and clarity. Concealing the truth for fear of losing status, wealth, or comfort is a betrayal of the very covenant Allah has taken from the learned.
Let this be a reminder to all of us: never let the glitter of this world tempt you into silencing the truth. The believer who spreads knowledge, even a single word, is walking in the footsteps of the prophets. And the one who hides it, for whatever reason, risks falling into the same condemnation mentioned in this verse.
So, open your heart, speak the truth with courage, and be among those who honor Allah’s covenant. For the reward with Allah is far greater than anything this fleeting world can offer. And know that Allah sees every effort you make to guide others—nothing is lost in His sight.
