Surah Ar-Rum — Verse 19

The Interpretation:

In this profound verse, Allah presents us with living proof of His power over life and death — evidence that should fill every heart with certainty and hope. He says: “He brings forth the living from the dead” — contemplate how a vibrant, breathing human being emerges from a mere drop of fluid that holds no apparent life, and how a beautiful bird bursts forth from a lifeless egg. This is the divine artistry of Allah, the Creator who gives life to what seems utterly devoid of it.

Then He says: “And He brings forth the dead from the living” — the very same process in reverse. From a living human comes a sperm drop that carries no life of its own; from a living bird comes an egg that is lifeless until Allah wills otherwise. This continuous cycle of transformation, happening before our eyes every single day, demonstrates that life and death are entirely in Allah’s hands. He is the One who flips the states as He pleases, with no resistance and no partner.

Then comes the third evidence: “And He revives the earth after its death.” Look at the land around you — dry, cracked, and barren, with no sign of green. Then the rain falls, and suddenly the same earth bursts forth with vegetation, flowers, and fruits. The dead earth comes alive again, and this is not a one-time event but a recurring miracle that we witness season after season. This is the same Allah who will revive the bodies of all humanity from their graves.

And then comes the powerful conclusion: “And thus you will be brought out.” Just as the living emerges from the dead, and the dead from the living, and just as the dead earth springs back to life — in exactly the same way, you, O people, will be brought out from your graves on the Day of Resurrection. The One who perfected these transformations in this world is more than capable of repeating them for the Hereafter.

Every time you see a seed sprouting from the soil, every time you witness a chick hatching from an egg, every time you observe the changing seasons, you are looking at a living proof of the resurrection. So let your heart be filled with hope — for the same Allah who brings life to a dead earth will bring you out of your grave, not to abandon you, but to reward your faith and good deeds with eternal bliss in Paradise.
