Key Words and Phrases:
- "Who created the heavens and the earth" (man khalaqa al-samawati wal-ard): This refers to the origin of the universe and all that exists within it.

- "But most of them do not know" (bal aktharuhum la ya'lamun): This refers to their ignorance of the implications of their own admission and their failure to grasp the true meaning of Tawhid (monotheism).
Explanation of the Verse:
In this profound verse, Allah instructs His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to engage the polytheists in a simple yet decisive line of questioning. If you, O Messenger, were to ask these people who associate partners with Allah: "Who created the heavens and the earth?" — they would, without hesitation, answer: "Allah." Their own admission testifies to the truth, for even in their state of disbelief, they could not deny that the Creator of this vast universe is Allah alone.
So, when they give this answer, Allah commands you to say: "All praise is due to Allah!" — praise for the fact that the truth has been established against them through their own words. Their confession of Allah's sole creative power is a clear proof against their practice of worshipping idols and false deities. If Allah alone created everything, then worship and devotion must be directed to Him alone.
However, despite this clear acknowledgment, most of them do not truly know or reflect upon what they are saying. Their ignorance lies not in the fact that they don't know Allah exists, but in their failure to grasp the necessary consequence of that knowledge: that He alone deserves their worship, obedience, and gratitude. They lack the deep understanding that would lead them to submit to their Creator.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
This verse beautifully demonstrates how the human fitrah (natural disposition) instinctively recognizes Allah, even when one tries to deny Him. The polytheists of Makkah, who rejected the Prophet's message, still admitted that Allah created the heavens and the earth. This is a powerful reminder for all of us: deep down, every soul knows its Creator. The question is whether we will follow that inner knowledge and submit to Allah, or whether we will let arrogance, habit, or worldly desires cloud our understanding.
Dear reader, let this verse be a mirror for your own heart. When you look at the sky, the mountains, the oceans, and the intricate design of your own body, does your heart not whisper: "Allah created all of this"? That whisper is your fitrah calling you to the truth. Do not ignore it. Let your knowledge of Allah's greatness transform into action — pray to Him, thank Him, and worship Him alone. For if you acknowledge that Allah is the Creator, then it is only fitting that you live your life for His sake, seeking His pleasure in all that you do. This is the path of true success, both in this life and in the Hereafter.
