Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- ضَلَلْنَا فِي الْأَرْضِ (Dalalna fi al-ard): Literally means "we have become lost in the earth," meaning our bodies have disintegrated, mixed with the soil, and vanished into the ground.
- خَلْقٍ جَدِيدٍ (Khalqin jadid): A new creation, i.e., being brought back to life anew after death.
- بِلِقَاءِ رَبِّهِمْ كَافِرُونَ (Biliqa'i Rabbihim kafirun): They deny the meeting with their Lord on the Day of Resurrection.
Tafsir (Explanation):
The disbelievers who rejected the resurrection posed a mocking question: "When we have died, our bodies have rotted away, and our very bones have turned to dust scattered in the earth—will we really be brought back as a new creation?" They said this not out of genuine inquiry or a sincere search for truth, but out of sheer arrogance, stubbornness, and denial. They found the idea of resurrection inconceivable, yet their rejection was not based on reason or evidence; it was rooted in their refusal to submit to their Lord. Allah responds to their skepticism by stating that their denial is not due to any intellectual difficulty, but because they are simply disbelievers in the meeting with their Lord—the very foundation of accountability and the Hereafter.
Reflection and Da'wah:
This verse highlights a fundamental truth: the human mind, when left to its own devices without divine guidance, often stumbles at the concept of life after death. Yet, the One who created the heavens and the earth from nothing, who brought forth life from a drop of fluid, and who revives the dead earth after its dryness—He is certainly able to bring the dead back to life. The disbelievers' question was not a genuine quest for understanding; it was a veil over their hearts. For the believer, the resurrection is not a distant impossibility but a certain reality that shapes every action and intention. When we truly believe that we will stand before our Lord, our lives gain profound purpose: we strive for righteousness, we restrain our desires, and we seek His pleasure in all we do. Let this verse be a reminder that the meeting with our Lord is not a myth to be doubted, but a promise to be embraced—a promise that turns this fleeting world into a field for the Hereafter, where every seed of good we plant will blossom into eternal bliss.
