Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Al-Juruz (الْجُرُزِ): The barren, dry land that is hard and devoid of any vegetation or plant life.
- Nasūq (نَسُوقُ): We drive or send forth — referring to the sending of rain-bearing clouds and water to a specific place by divine command.
- Anʿāmuhum (أَنْعَامُهُمْ): Their livestock — camels, cattle, and sheep.
- Anfusuhum (وَأَنفُسُهُمْ): Their own selves — meaning the people themselves who eat from this produce.
The Tafsir (Explanation):
Have these deniers of the Resurrection not looked with their eyes and reflected with their minds upon a clear, visible sign of Allah’s power? We drive the rain-laden clouds and send down water to a land that is utterly barren — dry, hard, and lifeless, with no trace of greenery. Then, by that very water, We bring forth crops of various kinds and colors — grains, fruits, and vegetation. From this harvest, their cattle graze and are nourished, and they themselves eat and sustain their own lives.
Is this not a miracle they witness every single year? They see the earth dead and lifeless, and then, with a single shower of rain, it stirs and swells with life. So do they not see with their own eyes and understand with their own hearts? The One who gave life to a dead earth is certainly able to give life to dead bones and raise people from their graves for the Day of Judgment.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, pause and ponder this scene for a moment. The same rain that falls on a rocky, barren mountain produces nothing, while the same rain falling on fertile soil brings forth a lush garden. This is not a random act of nature — it is the deliberate, wise act of the Creator, who directs water to where He wills and withholds it from where He wills.
If you can trust that Allah revives a dead land with water, then how can you doubt that He will revive dead bodies on the Day of Resurrection? The One who created you from nothing, who feeds you from the earth, who sends down rain from the sky — is He not capable of bringing you back to life?
Open your eyes, dear reader, to the signs around you. Every green field, every fruit you taste, every sip of water is a living proof of Allah’s power and mercy. Let this sight increase your faith, soften your heart, and draw you closer to your Lord. For the One who provides for you in this life is the same One who will resurrect you in the Hereafter — and He has promised Paradise to those who believe and do good deeds. So do not be among those who see but refuse to see, and who witness the signs but turn away. Rather, be among those who look, reflect, and submit to their Creator with love and gratitude.
