Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • "Dākhirūn" (داخرون): This refers to a state of utter humiliation, subjugation, and being brought low. It conveys the sense of being forced into submission, with no power or ability to resist or escape.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this verse, Allah instructs His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to respond to the disbelievers who mockingly questioned the possibility of resurrection after death and decay. They asked: "Shall we really be raised up again after we have become dust and rotten bones?"

The command is clear: "Say, O Muhammad, to them: Yes, indeed you will be resurrected, and you will be raised from your graves—you and your forefathers alike—while you are utterly humiliated and brought low."

This response is not merely an affirmation of the event; it carries a tone of decisive certainty. The word "dākhirūn" paints a vivid picture of the scene on the Day of Judgment, when all of creation—past and present—will stand before their Lord in a state of complete submission and disgrace, stripped of all arrogance and false pride. Those who once denied the power of Allah and mocked His promise will find themselves powerless, unable to flee or resist, as they are driven to the gathering for accountability.

This verse serves as a powerful reminder that the resurrection is an absolute truth, and that no one—no matter how strong, wealthy, or defiant they were in this worldly life—will escape the justice and might of Allah. The very bones that crumbled and the dust that scattered will be recreated by the same Power that brought them into existence the first time.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, ponder this profound truth: the One who created you from nothing is certainly able to bring you back to life after death. This is not a matter of doubt or speculation; it is a promise from the Most Merciful, the All-Powerful. Let this verse awaken in your heart a sense of accountability and hope. For those who believe and do righteous deeds, the Day of Resurrection will be a day of honor and joy. But for those who deny and persist in arrogance, it will be a day of humiliation and regret.

Embrace the message of Islam with an open heart, and let the certainty of this Day guide your steps toward what pleases your Lord. The path of faith is the path of peace and success—both in this life and in the everlasting life to come. Do not wait until the moment when you stand humiliated before your Creator; rather, hasten now to His mercy and forgiveness, for He is the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.

16أَإِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ
When we have died and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?
17أَوَآبَاؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ
And our forefathers [as well]?"
18قُلْ نَعَمْ وَأَنتُمْ دَاخِرُونَ

It will be only one shout, and at once they will be observing.
