Word Meanings:

  • مُطَّلِعُونَ (mutṭaliʿūn): Those who look upon or observe something from a vantage point; those who ascend to see or inspect something.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this verse, Allah narrates the scene from Paradise, where a believing man—who had once been companions with a disbeliever in the worldly life—turns to his fellow dwellers of Paradise and asks them: "Are you willing to look with me?" He invites them to join him in observing the fate of his former companion, the one who had denied the Resurrection and mocked the promise of Allah. The believer, now secure in the bliss of Paradise, desires to witness with his own eyes the outcome of that arrogant denial, not out of malice, but as a confirmation of the truth he had always believed in.

When they look, they see that disbelieving companion in the very midst of the blazing Fire—a stark contrast to the gardens of delight they now inhabit. This moment serves as a living testimony to the justice of Allah and the reality of the Hereafter, reinforcing the believer's gratitude and the disbeliever's regret.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse carries a profound lesson for every soul: the choices we make in this fleeting world determine our eternal abode. The believer in Paradise does not gloat over the punishment of others; rather, he is moved by the mercy of Allah that guided him to faith, and he is reminded of how close he himself was to ruin had he followed the whispers of his companion. Let this scene inspire you, dear reader, to examine your own companions and influences. Are they leading you toward the gardens of delight or toward the fire of regret? The Qur'an unveils these realities so that you may choose wisely before the day comes when no choice remains. Turn to your Lord now, while the door of repentance is open, and let the fate of others be a lesson—not a distant tale, but a wake-up call for your heart.
