Explanation of the Verse:
After mentioning those among the People of the Book who distorted the truth and turned away from it, Allah now highlights the praiseworthy exception — those who were truly sincere. He says: But those among them who are deeply rooted in knowledge, like ʿAbdullāh ibn Salām and his companions, along with the true believers from the Muhājirīn and Anṣār, believe with certainty in what has been revealed to you, O Messenger — the Qurʾān — and in all the scriptures that were revealed to the prophets before you, such as the Torah and the Gospel. They do not differentiate between the messengers or the divine books; rather, they affirm all of them as truth from Allah.
Furthermore, these believers are described with beautiful, action-oriented qualities: they establish the prayer, fulfilling its conditions and performing it with humility and devotion at its appointed times; they give the Zakāh from their wealth, purifying their souls and supporting their communities; and they believe in Allah as the One and Only God, with no partner, and in the Last Day — the Day of Resurrection, Reckoning, and Recompense. For all those who combine sound faith with righteous deeds, Allah promises a tremendous reward — nothing less than Paradise, eternal bliss, and His everlasting pleasure.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
This verse is a shining beacon of hope and a powerful invitation for every sincere seeker of truth. It teaches us that true knowledge is not merely the accumulation of facts, but knowledge that leads to faith, humility, and righteous action. The people praised here were not just scholars — they were believers whose knowledge transformed their hearts and their deeds. They combined the light of the mind with the purity of the soul and the goodness of action.
Dear reader, Allah is telling you today: whoever firmly seeks knowledge with sincerity, believes in the Qurʾān and all the previous revelations, establishes the prayer, gives charity, and believes in Allah and the Last Day — for them is a reward beyond imagination. This is the path to true success, the path that unites all the prophets and their followers throughout history. Embrace it with an open heart, and let your faith be reflected in your prayers, your charity, and your hope in the Hereafter. The door of Allah’s mercy is wide open, and His promise is true — He never breaks His word.
