Word Meanings:

Or We show you" – meaning, in your lifetime, before your death.
That which We have promised them" – i.e., the punishment and retribution that awaits the disbelievers.
Able / Capable" – fully powerful and in complete control over them, with nothing beyond Our reach.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse is a source of immense comfort and reassurance for the believer, especially for those who call to the truth and face rejection. Allah addresses His Prophet ﷺ with two possibilities: either He takes him before the punishment descends upon the disbelievers, or He shows him, with his own eyes, the very punishment He has promised them. In both cases, the outcome is certain: the disbelievers will not escape.

The first scenario is that the Prophet ﷺ passes away before witnessing their punishment in this world. Yet, this is no cause for sorrow, for Allah will surely exact vengeance upon them in the Hereafter — a punishment far greater and more lasting than anything in this fleeting world. The second scenario is that Allah grants him the joy of seeing their humiliation and defeat in this very life, as happened at the Battle of Badr, where the leaders of disbelief were struck down and the believers were granted victory.

The verse closes with a powerful affirmation: "Then indeed, We are over them fully capable." This is not a mere statement of possibility; it is an emphatic declaration of absolute power. Allah is not only able to punish them — He is in complete control of every detail of their existence. They cannot flee, hide, or resist. Their schemes, their armies, their wealth — none of it can protect them from His decree.

A Call to Reflection and Hope:

Dear believer, let this verse fill your heart with certainty. When you see falsehood spreading and the truth being rejected, do not despair. Allah sees it all, and His promise is true. The tyrant may seem strong today, but tomorrow he may be nothing but a memory. The believer’s duty is to remain steadfast, to deliver the message with sincerity, and to trust in Allah’s perfect timing. Whether you witness the victory in your lifetime or not, know that Allah never abandons His righteous servants. His justice is absolute, His power is unmatched, and His promise is certain. So hold firm, for the help of Allah is near — and He is over all things fully capable.

📜 Verse 40-44 — Az-Zukhruf

Then will you make the deaf hear, [O Muhammad], or guide the blind or he who is in clear error?
And whether [or not] We take you away [in death], indeed, We will take retribution upon them.
Or whether [or not] We show you that which We have promised them, indeed, We are Perfect in Ability.
So adhere to that which is revealed to you. Indeed, you are on a straight path.
And indeed, it is a remembrance for you and your people, and you [all] are going to be questioned.
