Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Ya Malik: O Malik — the keeper/guardian of Hellfire.
- Li-yaqdi 'alayna: Let your Lord decree/execute death upon us — i.e., let Him put an end to us.
- Makithun: Remaining forever, abiding permanently.
Tafsir (Explanation):
After the disbelievers are cast into Hellfire and experience its unbearable torment, they cry out in desperation to the angel Malik, the keeper of Hell. They plead: "O Malik, ask your Lord to finish us off — to put an end to our existence so we may find relief from this agony!" They seek death as an escape, for their suffering has become so intense that even annihilation seems preferable to their torment.
But the answer comes swift and final: "Indeed, you are to remain forever." There is no escape, no end, no relief. They will not die, nor will their punishment be lightened. This is the ultimate reality of those who rejected the truth — a permanent abode of suffering with no way out.
This exchange carries a profound lesson for us in this life. The people of Hell had every opportunity to avoid this fate. The truth was presented to them clearly, the messengers came with guidance, and yet they turned away in arrogance and dislike. Now, their regret and pleas come too late.
Dear reader — this is not merely a story of the past. It is a warning and a mercy from your Lord. The door of repentance is open *now*, while you still draw breath. The same tongue that could be used to seek forgiveness and call upon the Most Merciful is the very tongue that will cry out in vain on that Day. Do not wait until the answer comes: "Indeed, you are to remain forever."
Turn to Allah today with a sincere heart. He is the One who accepts repentance, forgives sins, and opens the gates of Paradise to those who believe and do righteous deeds. The choice is yours — the eternal bliss of Jannah or the eternal regret of Hell. Choose wisely, for this life is but a fleeting moment compared to what awaits.
