Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • "Fa-awḥā" — Then He revealed/communicated.
  • "ʿAbdihi" — His servant (referring to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ).
  • "Mā awḥā" — What He revealed (the precise nature of which is known only to Allah and His Messenger).

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse comes as the culmination of a profound and awe-inspiring scene described in the preceding verses of Surah An-Najm. It refers to the moment when Jibreel (Gabriel), the mighty angel of revelation, approached the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in his true, magnificent form, drawing near until he was within two bow-lengths or even closer. At that extraordinary moment, Allah — through Jibreel — conveyed to His beloved servant, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, whatever He willed to reveal. The verse deliberately leaves the content unspecified ("what He revealed"), which magnifies the mystery and grandeur of that divine communication. It was a revelation of the highest order, encompassing guidance, wisdom, and truths that the human mind cannot fully grasp.

This verse beautifully highlights the immense honor and closeness Allah bestowed upon His Prophet ﷺ. Calling him "His servant" (ʿabd) at this peak moment is a profound lesson: the highest rank a human can attain is not through claiming divinity or superiority, but through sincere, humble servitude to Allah. The Prophet ﷺ was not merely a recipient of words; he was chosen, purified, and elevated to receive direct divine communication in a manner that transcends human experience.

Da'wah Reflection:

Beloved reader, ponder this: the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the Lord of all worlds, chose to speak to a human being — and that human being was Muhammad ﷺ, a man known for his honesty and mercy. This revelation was not a random event; it was the lifeline of guidance for all of humanity. The fact that Allah revealed His words to a servant who was humble, patient, and devoted shows us that closeness to Allah is achievable through sincerity and submission. If you open your heart to the Qur'an today, you too are receiving a form of divine address — not through angelic revelation, but through the living words of Allah that call you to peace, purpose, and eternal success. Let this verse inspire you to value the Qur'an, to reflect on its meanings, and to strive to live by it. For the One who spoke to His Prophet still speaks to His creation through His Book — and He is calling you, right now, to draw near to Him.
