Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • الْفُؤَادُ (Al-Fu’ad): The heart, specifically the seat of intellect, perception, and consciousness.
  • مَا كَذَبَ (Ma Kadhaba): Did not lie, deny, or misrepresent.
  • مَا رَأَىٰ (Ma Ra’a): What he saw with his eyes.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse comes as a powerful affirmation of the truthfulness and certainty of the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) vision during his miraculous journey of ascension (Al-Isra wal-Mi’raj). After describing how the Angel Gabriel (Jibreel) appeared to him in his true, majestic form, Allah declares that the heart of His Messenger did not falsify or distort what his eyes had witnessed.

The heart here is not just a physical organ but the center of understanding and conviction. The Prophet’s heart and his sight were in perfect harmony — what his eyes saw, his heart confirmed with absolute certainty, without any doubt, hesitation, or misrepresentation. This verse refutes any claim that the Prophet’s experience was a dream, an illusion, or a figment of imagination. It was a real, physical, and spiritual reality, witnessed with his own eyes and affirmed by his own heart.

This verse also highlights the profound trustworthiness of the Prophet (peace be upon him). His heart was so pure, so devoted, and so aligned with divine truth that it could never fabricate or exaggerate what it perceived. It is a testament to his complete honesty and the authenticity of his message.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, ponder the greatness of this moment! The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was granted a vision so magnificent that it transcended the limits of human perception. Yet, his heart remained steadfast and truthful, never wavering in its confirmation of what he saw. This is a sign for you: if the heart of the Messenger was so pure and truthful, then his message is equally true. Let this verse inspire you to purify your own heart, to seek truth sincerely, and to trust in the divine revelations that guide humanity to success in this life and the Hereafter. The Quran is not a book of myths — it is the eternal truth, revealed to a truthful heart, for the benefit of all mankind. Embrace it, and you will find peace and certainty beyond measure.

And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed.

The heart did not lie [about] what it saw.
12أَفَتُمَارُونَهُ عَلَىٰ مَا يَرَىٰ
So will you dispute with him over what he saw?
13وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَىٰ
And he certainly saw him in another descent
