Surah Ar-Rahman — Verse 50

Word Meanings:

• ʿaynān (عَيْنَانِ): Two springs or fountains of water.
• tajriyān (تَجْرِيَانِ): They flow continuously, never ceasing or running dry.

Tafsir (Explanation):

In these two Gardens that Allah has prepared for His righteous servants, there are two springs of water flowing freely throughout them. These springs are not stagnant pools, but living, moving water that courses through the gardens, nourishing their trees, fruits, and rivers. One of these springs is known as *Salsabīl*, and the other is *Tasnīm* — both gushing with the purest, most delightful water imaginable. The continuous flow of these springs symbolizes eternal life, vitality, and the boundless mercy of Allah. Unlike the waters of this world, which may become murky, scarce, or cease to flow, these springs are ever-flowing, crystal clear, and utterly refreshing. They are a gift from the Most Merciful to His beloved servants, a sign of His infinite generosity and care.

Imagine a place where water never stops flowing — where every corner of your home is filled with the sound of gentle streams, where you can drink from springs that taste better than anything you have ever known, and where you never feel thirst again. This is but one of the countless blessings Allah has prepared for those who strive to know Him, worship Him, and follow His guidance in this life. The Qur’an repeatedly invites us to reflect on these descriptions so that our hearts yearn for what is with Allah and we turn away from the fleeting pleasures of this world. If a single flowing spring in a garden on earth can bring so much joy and peace, how magnificent must be the Gardens of Paradise? Let this verse awaken in you a deep longing for Allah’s reward, and let it motivate you to increase in good deeds, repentance, and love for your Creator. Paradise is real, its springs are flowing, and its doors are open — so race towards it with sincerity and devotion.
