Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- مَا تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ بِهِ (what you seek to hasten): The punishment and divine retribution that the disbelievers mockingly challenged the Prophet ﷺ to bring upon them.
- لَقُضِيَ الْأَمْرُ (the matter would have been settled): The affair between the Prophet and them would have been concluded by the immediate execution of that punishment.
- الظَّالِمِينَ (the wrongdoers): Those who transgressed all bounds by associating partners with Allah and rejecting His messengers.
Tafsir (Explanation):
O Prophet, say clearly to those who mock and challenge you: "If I possessed the power to bring down the punishment you so recklessly demand, I would not hesitate for a single moment—I would unleash it upon you, and the matter between us would be settled once and for all. You would be destroyed, and I would be relieved of your hostility and oppression."
But the Prophet ﷺ does not own that power, nor does any human being. The decision to punish or pardon, to hasten or delay, rests solely with Allah—the All-Knowing, the All-Wise. He alone knows the true nature of the wrongdoers: their depths of injustice, their stubbornness in disbelief, and the precise moment when their punishment becomes due. He gives them respite, not out of neglect, but out of divine wisdom, allowing them every opportunity to repent and return to the truth.
This verse carries a profound lesson for every believer: the ultimate authority over all affairs belongs to Allah alone. When we see evil prevailing and injustice spreading, we do not despair, nor do we take matters into our own hands. Instead, we place our complete trust in Allah, knowing that His knowledge encompasses everything and His justice is absolute. He sees every wrong committed, and He will settle every account at the perfect time He has ordained.
Dear reader, reflect on the beauty of this divine assurance: the One who knows all things—including the hidden schemes of the oppressors—is the same One who watches over you. So hold firm to your faith, be patient in adversity, and rest assured that the justice of Allah is never delayed without purpose, nor is it ever withheld without wisdom.
