فَأَنجَيْنَاهُ وَأَهْلَهُ إِلَّا امْرَأَتَهُ كَانَتْ مِنَ الْغَابِرِينَ ۝٨٣

Explanation of the Verse:

In this verse, Allah recounts the fate of Prophet Lot (peace be upon him) and his household. When the divine punishment was decreed upon the people of Sodom for their grave sins, Allah commanded Lot to leave the town at night with his family — those who believed in his message. Allah saved him and his believing family members from the torment that was about to descend. However, his wife was an exception: she did not believe in her husband's prophethood and secretly sided with the disbelievers. Therefore, she was among "those who remained behind" — she stayed with the corrupt people and was overtaken by the same punishment that destroyed them. Her betrayal and disbelief severed her from the mercy of Allah, and no family tie to a prophet could shield her from the consequences of her own rejection of truth.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

This verse carries a profound lesson for every soul: salvation is not inherited by blood, but earned through faith and righteous deeds. Even the wife of a prophet was not spared because she chose disbelief over truth. This teaches us that no relationship, status, or lineage can save us from Allah's justice — only sincere belief and obedience to Him can. 81إِنَّكُمْ لَتَأْتُونَ الرِّجَالَ شَهْوَةً مِّن دُونِ النِّسَاءِ ۚ بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّسْرِفُونَ

Indeed, you approach men with desire, instead of women. Rather, you are a transgressing people."

82وَمَا كَانَ جَوَابَ قَوْمِهِ إِلَّا أَن قَالُوا أَخْرِجُوهُم مِّن قَرْيَتِكُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ أُنَاسٌ يَتَطَهَّرُونَ

But the answer of his people was only that they said, "Evict them from your city! Indeed, they are men who keep themselves pure."

83فَأَنجَيْنَاهُ وَأَهْلَهُ إِلَّا امْرَأَتَهُ كَانَتْ مِنَ الْغَابِرِينَ

So We saved him and his family, except for his wife; she was of those who remained [with the evildoers].

84وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِم مَّطَرًا ۖ فَانظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُجْرِمِينَ

And We rained upon them a rain [of stones]. Then see how was the end of the criminals.

85وَإِلَىٰ مَدْيَنَ أَخَاهُمْ شُعَيْبًا ۗ قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُهُ ۖ قَدْ جَاءَتْكُم بَيِّنَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ ۖ فَأَوْفُوا الْكَيْلَ وَالْمِيزَانَ وَلَا تَبْخَسُوا النَّاسَ أَشْيَاءَهُمْ وَلَا تُفْسِدُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ بَعْدَ إِصْلَاحِهَا ۚ ذَٰلِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

And to [the people of] Madyan [We sent] their brother Shu'ayb. He said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. There has come to you clear evidence from your Lord. So fulfill the measure and weight and do not deprive people of their due and cause not corruption upon the earth after its reformation. That is better for you, if you should be believers.
