Word Meanings:

  • أُوتِيَ (Ūtiya): Given or granted.
(Kitābahu): His book/record — referring to the scroll of deeds that every person receives on the Day of Judgment.
(Bi-yamīnihi): In his right hand — a sign of honor, success, and divine pleasure.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse opens the scene of the Final Reckoning, where every soul is handed the complete record of its earthly deeds. The phrase "as for him who is given his book in his right hand" points to the believer — the one who lived with faith in Allah, performed righteous actions, and followed the guidance of His messengers. The right hand is mentioned because it symbolizes honor, dignity, and triumph. In contrast, those who rejected the truth will receive their books in their left hands or from behind their backs, as a mark of disgrace and loss.

The giving of the book in the right hand is not a random event — it is the fruit of a life spent in obedience, sincerity, and devotion. It is the moment when the believer’s patience, prayers, charity, and trust in Allah are crowned with divine mercy. This is the beginning of an eternal joy that no sorrow can interrupt, for the believer is then taken to an easy reckoning, and after that, to a blissful reunion with loved ones in Paradise.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

Dear reader, imagine that moment — standing before your Lord, and your book is placed in your right hand. What a beautiful sight! What a comforting promise! This is not a distant dream; it is a reality that you can shape today. Every prayer you offer, every honest word you speak, every kindness you show, every sin you avoid for Allah’s sake — all of it is being recorded and will one day be presented to you as a gift of honor. Do not let this opportunity slip away. Turn to Allah now, renew your faith, and fill your pages with deeds that will make that moment one of pure joy. The path is open, the door of repentance is wide, and the mercy of Allah is greater than all your shortcomings. Strive today so that tomorrow, you may receive your book with your right hand, smiling, in the eternal gardens of delight.

📜 Verse 5-9 — Al-Inshiqaq

And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] -
O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it.
Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand,
He will be judged with an easy account
And return to his people in happiness.
