Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Dhakkir (فَذَكِّرْ): Remind, admonish, or exhort.
  • Al-Dhikrā (الذِّكْرَىٰ): The reminder, admonition, or the act of recalling and heeding the truth.
  • Nafaʿat (نَّفَعَتِ): Benefited or proved useful.

Explanation of the Verse:

O Messenger, continue to remind and admonish people with the Qur’an and the wisdom Allah has revealed to you, guiding them toward what is good for them in this life and the Hereafter. Let your reminder be gentle and sincere, delivered in the way that best touches hearts and opens minds.

The verse indicates that you should keep conveying the message, whether your reminder appears to be accepted or rejected. However, it also teaches a profound wisdom: focus your energy on those who are likely to benefit — those whose hearts are open, who listen with humility, and who show readiness to receive guidance. Do not exhaust yourself in futile arguments with those whose stubbornness only increases in arrogance and aversion when they hear the truth. Your duty is to convey the message clearly and beautifully; guidance itself rests with Allah alone.

This instruction reflects the mercy and practicality of Islam — it calls us to be wise in our approach, to invest our efforts where they yield fruit, and to trust that even a single word of truth can plant a seed that grows in ways we may never see. The Prophet ﷺ was commanded to persist in reminding, for the Qur’an is a living miracle that softens hearts, and no one knows when a heart may turn back to its Lord.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, this verse is a gentle invitation to you as well. When you hear the Qur’an or a word of wisdom, let it find a receptive heart in you. Do not be among those who turn away, for the reminder is a mercy — a light that illuminates the path to peace, purpose, and eternal success. Open your heart, and you will find that the Qur’an speaks directly to your soul, guiding you to the best of this world and the next. And if you are a caller to Islam, take comfort in this verse: your role is to remind with kindness and wisdom, not to force results. Allah sees your effort, and He alone turns hearts.

And We will ease you toward ease.

10سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰ
He who fears [Allah] will be reminded.

But the wretched one will avoid it -
