Surah Hud — Verse 75

In this noble verse, Allah praises His beloved Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) with three profound qualities that reflect the depth of his faith and character. First, Ibrahim is described as *ḥalīm* — a man of immense forbearance and gentleness. He does not rush to anger or seek immediate punishment for those who wrong him, even when faced with severe hostility. Instead, he responds with patience and wisdom, embodying the noble trait of self-restraint that Allah loves.

Second, he is *awwāh* — a servant whose heart is so tender and connected to his Lord that he frequently sighs and groans out of deep humility, fear of Allah, and sorrow for any shortcoming. This is not a sign of weakness, but rather a mark of profound spiritual awareness. His sighs are the whispers of a soul that feels the weight of this world and longs for the mercy of its Creator. He is constant in supplication, raising his hands to Allah with a broken heart, knowing that only Allah can mend it.

Third, he is *munīb* — one who turns back to Allah in repentance again and again. No matter the trial or error, Ibrahim does not drift away from his Lord; rather, every experience draws him closer. He returns to Allah in all his affairs — in times of ease and hardship, in joy and sorrow — making his entire life a journey of turning toward the Divine.

These three qualities together paint a portrait of a believer who is gentle with people, humble before Allah, and ever-returning to Him. They are a beautiful reminder for every Muslim: to soften our hearts, to control our anger, to increase our supplication, and to make repentance a constant companion on our path. If we strive to embody even a fraction of these traits, we draw nearer to the station of the prophets and earn the love of Allah, who says in His Book: *"Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves"* (Al-Baqarah 2:222).

Let this verse inspire you, dear reader, to check your own heart: Are you forbearing when tested? Do you sigh to Allah in the depths of the night? Do you turn back to Him every time you stumble? The door of repentance is always open, and Allah’s mercy is vaster than your sins.
