Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Yabsut – He expands, enlarges, or makes abundant.
  • Ar-Rizq – Provision, sustenance, or livelihood.
  • Yaqdir – He restricts, tightens, or measures out sparingly.
  • Fariḥū – They rejoiced (with arrogance and heedlessness).
  • Matāʿ – A temporary, fleeting enjoyment or commodity.

Tafsir (Explanation):

Allah, in His infinite wisdom and justice, alone controls all provision. He expands the sustenance of whom He wills and restricts it for whom He wills. This distribution is not a sign of His love or pleasure, nor is restriction a sign of His displeasure or rejection. Rather, it is a test — He may grant abundant wealth to the disbeliever as a means of gradual ruin, and He may tighten provision for the believer to elevate their rank and increase their reward. Everything occurs by His will and decree.

Yet, the disbelievers, in their ignorance, rejoice with pride and arrogance in the luxuries of this worldly life. They become attached to it, feeling secure and content in its fleeting pleasures, as if it were their ultimate goal. But what is this worldly life compared to the Hereafter? It is nothing but a small, passing enjoyment — like a drop in an ocean — that quickly fades away and comes to an end. The true, everlasting life is the life of the Hereafter, and the wise believer prepares for it rather than being deceived by the temporary glitter of this world.

A Da'wah Reflection:

Dear reader, let this verse open your eyes to a profound truth: the measure of success is not in how much wealth you accumulate, but in how you use what you have been given. Do not be deceived by those who have much in this world, for their abundance may be a test, not a blessing. And do not despair if your provision is limited, for your patience and gratitude may be your greatest treasure. Turn your heart toward the eternal life — the Hereafter — where true joy and lasting peace await those who believed and did righteous deeds. This world is but a passing shadow; make your home in the everlasting light of Allah's pleasure.

📜 Verse 24-28 — Ar-Ra'd

"Peace be upon you for what you patiently endured. And excellent is the final home."
But those who break the covenant of Allah after contracting it and sever that which Allah has ordered to be joined and spread corruption on earth - for them is the curse, and they will have the worst home.
Allah extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]. And they rejoice in the worldly life, while the worldly life is not, compared to the Hereafter, except [brief] enjoyment.
And those who disbelieved say, "Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?" Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, Allah leaves astray whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns back [to Him] -
Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured."
