Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Tu-sirrūn (تُسِرّون): What you conceal and keep hidden within yourselves—your innermost thoughts, intentions, and deeds done in secret.
  • Tuʿlinūn (تُعْلِنون): What you make public and reveal openly—your words, actions, and beliefs that others can see or hear.

Tafsir (Explanation):

O servants of Allah, know with certainty that your Lord—glorified and exalted be He—has perfect and complete knowledge of everything about you. Nothing escapes His awareness, whether it is the secrets buried deep within your hearts, the hidden intentions behind your actions, or the deeds you perform in the darkness of the night when no one sees you. Likewise, He knows every word you utter openly, every action you display before others, and every belief you declare publicly.

This encompasses your creeds, your worship, your dealings with people, and all aspects of your daily life. Not a single atom’s weight of your hidden or apparent deeds is unknown to Him. He has recorded all of it in the Preserved Tablet, and He will bring you to account for every matter—the small and the great, the concealed and the disclosed—on the Day when all secrets are brought to light.

This verse instills in the believer’s heart a profound sense of Allah’s watchfulness (murāqabah). When you realize that Allah sees and knows all, you become mindful of Him in private just as you are in public. Your faith deepens, and you strive to purify your intentions, knowing that even the most hidden thought is not lost upon your Creator.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

How beautiful is this certainty! It frees you from the need to seek people’s approval, for the One who truly matters knows your innermost reality. It also consoles the oppressed and the patient, for their hidden struggles and silent prayers are fully known to Allah, who never wrongs anyone.

So, dear believer, let this knowledge transform your life: guard your heart, for Allah hears its whispers; purify your deeds, for Allah sees their essence; and rejoice in the fact that your Lord is never unaware of your efforts—whether you strive in secret or in public. He is the All-Knowing, the All-Seeing, and His reward is the greatest and most lasting. Turn to Him with sincerity, and you will find that He is near, responsive, and ever mindful of those who worship Him with devotion.

📜 Verse 17-21 — An-Nahl

Then is He who creates like one who does not create? So will you not be reminded?
And if you should count the favors of Allah, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
And Allah knows what you conceal and what you declare.
And those they invoke other than Allah create nothing, and they [themselves] are created.
They are, [in fact], dead, not alive, and they do not perceive when they will be resurrected.
