Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- ظُلَل (Zulal): Plural of *Zullah*, meaning layers or canopies that provide shade/cover.
- الْغَمَام (Al-Ghamam): Clouds; so called because they cover (*yaghmum*) the sky.
- وَقُضِيَ الْأَمْرُ (Wa qudiya al-amr): The matter is decisively settled and concluded.
Explanation of the Verse:
After all the clear proofs and signs have been presented, what are these obstinate disbelievers waiting for? They are only waiting for the moment when Allah Himself—in a manner befitting His majesty and glory, without any resemblance to His creation—will come on the Day of Judgment, veiled in canopies of clouds, accompanied by the angels surrounding them from every direction. At that moment, the final judgment will be passed, and the fate of every soul will be sealed with perfect justice. There will be no delay, no appeal, and no escape. And to Allah alone—not to any other power or being—do all affairs ultimately return. Every matter, whether great or small, in this life and the next, finds its final destination in His infinite wisdom and authority.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, this verse awakens the heart to a reality we often forget: that this worldly life is temporary, and a decisive Day is inevitably approaching. The disbelievers, despite witnessing signs and miracles, delayed their faith, thinking they could wait until they saw the ultimate truth with their own eyes. But by then, it will be too late—the matter will already be concluded, and no second chance will be granted.
Do not be like those who wait for the impossible. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has opened the doors of repentance and guidance for you *now*, in this very moment. He does not wish to punish you; He wishes to forgive you and elevate you. The clouds of His mercy are closer to you than the clouds of that Day—so hasten to His obedience, embrace His message, and let your heart find peace in the remembrance of the One to whom all affairs return. For truly, the happiest person is the one who returns to Allah willingly in this life, before being returned to Him unwillingly on the Day when the matter is decided.
