Word Meanings:

  • "Idribūhu" (اضربوه): Strike him — referring to the murdered man.
  • "Bibaʿḍihā" (ببعضها): With a part of it — meaning a portion of the cow that was sacrificed.
  • "Āyātihi" (آياته): His signs — the clear proofs and miracles demonstrating Allah's perfect power.

Explanation of the Verse:

After the Children of Israel had argued and delayed in carrying out the command to sacrifice a cow, Allah — in His infinite wisdom and mercy — instructed them: "Strike the slain man with a part of that cow." When they did so, Allah brought the dead man back to life by His sheer will and power, and he spoke, revealing the identity of his murderer. This was a profound miracle that left no room for doubt.

This event was not merely about solving a crime — it was a living lesson in the reality of resurrection. Just as Allah revived that one dead man before their very eyes, He will revive all of humanity on the Day of Judgment. The One who can bring life to a corpse with a single command is certainly able to raise every soul from the grave.

Allah then says: "And He shows you His signs so that you may understand." He presents you with clear, undeniable evidences of His power and wisdom — not to burden you, but to awaken your minds and hearts. He wants you to reflect, to reason, and to arrive at the truth: that nothing is impossible for Allah, that obedience to Him is the path to success, and that the Hereafter is an absolute certainty.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, pause and ponder this magnificent scene. A lifeless body, struck with a piece of a cow, springs back to life by Allah's command. This is not a fairy tale — it is a historical reality recorded in the Qur'an for our benefit. If Allah could do this then, He can do it again on the Day of Resurrection.

Let this verse strengthen your faith. When you see the signs of Allah around you — the alternation of night and day, the rain reviving dead earth, the birth of a child from nothing — know that the same Power that orchestrates all of this will surely bring you back to life after death.

So, dear Muslim, let your intellect lead you to submission. Do not let your desires overpower your reason. The Qur'an repeatedly calls us to "understand" — because understanding leads to faith, and faith leads to righteous action. Embrace this truth with an open heart, and let it transform your life into one of gratitude, obedience, and hope in the mercy of your Lord.

📜 Verse 71-75 — Al-Baqarah

He said, "He says, 'It is a cow neither trained to plow the earth nor to irrigate the field, one free from fault with no spot upon her.' " They said, "Now you have come with the truth." So they slaughtered her, but they could hardly do it.
And [recall] when you slew a man and disputed over it, but Allah was to bring out that which you were concealing.
So, We said, "Strike the slain man with part of it." Thus does Allah bring the dead to life, and He shows you His signs that you might reason.
Then your hearts became hardened after that, being like stones or even harder. For indeed, there are stones from which rivers burst forth, and there are some of them that split open and water comes out, and there are some of them that fall down for fear of Allah. And Allah is not unaware of what you do.
Do you covet [the hope, O believers], that they would believe for you while a party of them used to hear the words of Allah and then distort the Torah after they had understood it while they were knowing?
