Word Meanings:

  • Khudh-ha (خذها): Take it — i.e., seize the staff.
  • Wa la takhaf (ولا تخف): And do not fear — a direct divine command to calm Prophet Musa's (Moses, peace be upon him) heart.
  • Sanu'iduha (سنعيدها): We will restore it — an emphative promise from Allah.
  • Sirataha al-ula (سيرتها الأولى): Its former state — meaning its original condition as a solid, lifeless staff.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this blessed verse, Allah Almighty addresses His Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) with words of immense reassurance and divine power. When Musa witnessed his staff transform into a moving serpent by Allah's command, a natural human feeling of fear overtook him. But Allah, the Most Merciful and All-Powerful, immediately spoke to him: "Take it, and do not fear."

This is a profound lesson in trust and surrender to Allah's will. The command to "take it" was not merely an instruction to grab the serpent — it was a test of Musa's faith and obedience. Would he obey Allah's command despite his natural fear? And Allah did not leave him in doubt; He followed the command with a comforting promise: "We will restore it to its former state." That is, once Musa takes hold of it, Allah would return it to being a solid staff, just as it was before — a clear demonstration that the transformation was entirely under Allah's control, and that Musa had nothing to fear.

This verse also carries a deeper wisdom: Allah showed Musa this miracle at the very moment of the divine address, so that when Musa later stands before Pharaoh and his court, he would not be alarmed or shaken when the staff transforms again. He would already know, from personal experience, that Allah is the One who transforms and restores, and that the staff's change is a sign of Allah's power — not a source of terror.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear believer, ponder the beauty of this divine interaction! Allah did not rebuke Musa for his fear; rather, He gently reassured him and gave him a promise. This teaches us that Allah knows our human weaknesses and fears, and He responds to them with mercy and guidance. When you face trials in life — when situations seem to transform into something frightening or overwhelming — remember that Allah is the One who controls all affairs. He can restore peace, bring ease after hardship, and turn your fear into tranquility, just as He restored the staff to its original form.

Let this verse be a source of courage for you: whenever you are commanded to do something good, or to face a challenge in the path of Allah, do not let fear hold you back. Place your trust in Allah, for He has promised: "Do not fear — We will restore it to its former state." Whatever trials you face, Allah's power is greater, His mercy is nearer, and His promise is true. So hold firmly to your faith, take hold of what Allah has commanded you, and let your heart rest in the certainty that Allah never abandons His sincere servants.

So he threw it down, and thereupon it was a snake, moving swiftly.

And draw in your hand to your side; it will come out white without disease - another sign,
