Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- "Khalaqahu" (خَلْقَهُ): His (the creature's) form, shape, or constitution — the specific physical and innate structure suited to each being.
- "Hadā" (هَدَىٰ): Guided — meaning He showed and enabled each creature to use what He gave it, whether through instinct, natural disposition, or divine inspiration.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this noble verse, Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) responds to Pharaoh's arrogant question, "So who is your Lord, O Musa?" with a profound and concise answer that points to the universal signs of Allah's Lordship. Musa says: "Our Lord is He who gave everything its creation, then guided."
This means that Allah, Glorified and Exalted, created every being with a perfect, unique form suited to its purpose — the human with upright posture and intellect, the bird with wings for flight, the fish with fins for swimming, the bee with the instinct to build hexagonal hives, and the camel with humps storing fat for long desert journeys. Nothing was created haphazardly; each creature received exactly the form that fits its role in existence.
Then, after granting this perfect creation, Allah guided each creature to use what He gave it. He taught the ant how to gather food, the spider how to weave its web, the newborn how to suckle, and the human being how to cultivate the earth, build civilizations, and — most importantly — how to know and worship his Lord through revelation and reason. This guidance is both instinctive (for all creatures) and spiritual (for humans through prophets and scriptures).
So Musa's answer was not merely a theological statement — it was a living proof drawn from the observable universe. Every creature, from the smallest microbe to the largest whale, testifies through its very existence and function that it has a Wise Creator who fashioned it perfectly and then guided it to its purpose.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Beloved reader, ponder this verse deeply. The same Lord who gave the bee its honey-making instinct and the bird its migration routes is your Lord — and He has given you something far greater: a conscious heart, a reasoning mind, and the gift of divine guidance through the Qur'an. He did not leave you to wander aimlessly; He guided you to the straight path. When you see the perfect order in creation, let it strengthen your certainty that the One who manages all affairs with such precision is fully capable of answering your prayers, providing for your needs, and guiding your steps. So turn to Him with trust, for the One who gave everything its creation and then guided it will never abandon you. He has already guided you to Islam — now walk with confidence, knowing that your Lord is the Most Merciful, the All-Wise.
