Word Meanings:
- "Mujriman" (مُجْرِمًا): A criminal; one who has earned sins and committed grave offenses, particularly associating partners with Allah (shirk) and persisting in disobedience.
- "Jahannam" (جَهَنَّمَ): Hellfire; the severe punishment prepared for the disbelievers and sinners.
- "Lā yamūtu fīhā wa lā yaḥyā" (لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ): He will neither die—so as to find rest from torment—nor live a life of any benefit or comfort.
Explanation of the Verse:
Allah, the Almighty, declares a decisive and solemn truth: whoever comes before his Lord on the Day of Resurrection as a criminal—meaning one who has persisted in disbelief, associating partners with Allah, and accumulating sins without repentance—will have Hellfire as his eternal abode. He will be cast into it and subjected to continuous punishment. In that state, he will not die, for death would bring him relief from the torment, nor will he live a life of any goodness or enjoyment. Rather, he exists in a perpetual state of suffering—neither fully dead to escape, nor alive in any meaningful sense. This is the ultimate consequence of turning away from Allah's guidance and rejecting His mercy.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
This verse serves as a profound warning from the Most Merciful, who does not wish destruction for His servants but rather their salvation. Reflect, dear reader: how great is Allah's justice, and how immense is His mercy! He has sent messengers, revealed scriptures, and given us countless opportunities to return to Him. The door of repentance remains open until the moment of death. So, do not let this life's fleeting pleasures deceive you into forgetting the eternal reality. Turn to Allah now with a sincere heart, seek His forgiveness, and strive to live in obedience to Him. For He who warns you of Hellfire is the same Lord who invites you to Paradise, where there is no pain, no sorrow, and no end to bliss. Choose the path of guidance today, and you will never regret it—for the mercy of Allah is greater than your sins, and His love for those who return to Him is beyond measure.
