Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • أَغْرَقْنَا (Aghraqna): We drowned (caused to sink and perish in water).
(Ba'du): After (that), i.e., after the rescue of Nuh and the believers.
(Al-Baqeen): The remaining ones (those who were left behind and did not believe).

Explanation of the Verse:

After Allah, the Most Merciful and Just, had saved Prophet Nuh (Noah) and the believers who boarded the ark, His decree of justice fell upon the rest. The verse states: "Then We drowned the remaining ones afterwards."

These "remaining ones" were the disbelievers of Nuh's people—those who had stubbornly rejected his call, mocked his message, and refused to abandon their idolatry. Despite Nuh's patient preaching for centuries, they persisted in their arrogance and denial. When the flood came as a divine punishment, they were completely overwhelmed and destroyed, while the faithful were carried safely in the ark by Allah's mercy.

This verse highlights a profound truth: Allah's help always arrives for His righteous servants, and His punishment inevitably reaches those who persist in wrongdoing. The drowning was not merely a physical destruction but a decisive end to a people who had exhausted every opportunity for repentance. It serves as a timeless reminder that no one can escape Allah's justice, and that His promise to support His believers is absolute.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, ponder this scene: the same water that became a source of life and salvation for Nuh and his followers became a means of destruction for the arrogant. This is the nature of divine decree—what brings mercy to the faithful brings ruin to the defiant. Let this verse inspire you to examine your own heart. Are you among those who heed the call of truth and find safety in Allah's care, or among those who delay until it is too late?

The story of Nuh teaches us that Allah never abandons His sincere servants. No matter how long the trial, how great the opposition, or how few the supporters, the end of the believers is always honorable, and the end of the rejecters is always loss. Embrace the message of the Quran, hold fast to faith, and trust in Allah's promise—for He is the Best of Protectors and the Most Merciful of those who show mercy. The ark of Islam is still sailing today; whoever boards it through sincere faith and righteous deeds will be saved, and whoever turns away will face the consequences of their choice.

📜 Verse 118-122 — Ash-Shu'ara

Then judge between me and them with decisive judgement and save me and those with me of the believers."
So We saved him and those with him in the laden ship.
Then We drowned thereafter the remaining ones.
Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers.
And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.
