Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • Zuru' (زُرُوعٍ): Cultivated fields of grains and crops.
  • Nakhl (نَخْلٍ): Date palms.
  • Tal'uha (طَلْعُهَا): The first fruit that appears on the palm tree, the spathe or the early cluster of dates.
  • Hadim (هَضِيمٌ): Tender, soft, ripe, and delicate — referring to fruit that is easily pressed and pleasant to eat.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this verse, Allah reminds humanity of the abundant blessings He has bestowed upon them in this worldly life. After mentioning gardens and flowing springs in the previous verse, Allah continues to enumerate His favors by pointing to the cultivated fields of grain and crops, and to the date palms whose early fruit is soft, tender, and ripe — a sign of perfection and care in creation.

The mention of these blessings serves as a powerful reminder: if people are living in such comfort and enjoyment, surrounded by fertile lands, nourishing produce, and sweet fruits, should they not reflect on the Giver of all this? Should they not be grateful and obedient to the One who provided all of this for them? The verse gently but firmly calls upon the human heart to recognize the generosity of Allah and to realize that this life, with all its pleasures, is temporary — and that true security and peace lie in turning to Allah and following His guidance.

This is an invitation to gratitude, reflection, and humility. When we see a ripe, tender date or a flourishing field, we should remember that it is Allah who caused it to grow, and that He alone deserves our worship and thanks. The verse also carries a subtle warning: these blessings can be taken away in an instant, so do not become arrogant or heedless. Instead, let every fruit and every harvest remind you of your Creator, and let your heart soften just as that fruit is soft — open to faith, submission, and love for Allah.

📜 Verse 146-150 — Ash-Shu'ara

Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death],
Within gardens and springs
And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit?
And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill.
So fear Allah and obey me.
