Surah As-Sajdah — Verse 18

The believer is one who has submitted to Allah, embraced faith with sincerity, and strives to live by His guidance — performing what is commanded and avoiding what is prohibited. The transgressor, on the other hand, is one who has turned away from Allah's path, broken His boundaries, and lived in rebellion against His commands — whether through disbelief or persistent sin.

Allah then settles the matter with an absolute, decisive statement: "They are not equal." This is not merely a statement of difference in this world, but a declaration of the fundamental distinction in the Hereafter. The believer will be rewarded with eternal bliss in Paradise, while the transgressor will face the consequences of their rebellion.

It is important to note that this verse does not refer to just one believer and one sinner — rather, it encompasses all believers and all transgressors as two distinct groups. No believer, regardless of their shortcomings, is to be placed on the same level as a deliberate sinner who rejects Allah's guidance. And no act of obedience can be weighed equally with an act of disobedience in the scales of divine justice.
