Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse exposes a profound contradiction in the hearts of hypocrites and wrongdoers. They go to great lengths to conceal their misdeeds from people—hiding their faces, whispering in corners, and swearing false oaths—terrified that human eyes might catch a glimpse of their shame. Yet, astonishingly, they feel no such shame or fear before Allah, the All-Seeing, the All-Knowing. They forget—or pretend to forget—that He is with them at every moment, not in a physical sense, but in His complete and perfect knowledge. He witnesses their secret scheming as they plot through the night, crafting words and plans that displease Him: defending the guilty, accusing the innocent, and twisting the truth to serve their selfish ends.
The verse reminds us that Allah’s knowledge is absolute and all-encompassing. Nothing escapes Him—neither the whispers of the heart, nor the silent deliberations of the night, nor the hidden agendas that people so carefully disguise. He is fully aware of every action, every intention, and every word, whether spoken aloud or kept concealed. And because He is the Just and Wise, He will hold everyone accountable for what they have done, rewarding the sincere and punishing the deceitful.
A Da’wah Reflection:
Dear reader, let this verse awaken your heart! If you are so careful to hide your faults from people—people who are weak, forgetful, and often blind to what you do—how much more should you revere the One who sees you always, even in the darkest of nights? The Prophet ﷺ taught us that true faith is to worship Allah as though you see Him, for even if you cannot see Him, He certainly sees you. This awareness is the key to a pure heart and a righteous life. When you know that Allah is with you, you will never feel alone, and when you know that He sees you, you will never dare to disobey Him in secret. Embrace this beautiful reality: Allah’s presence with you is not a threat but a mercy—it means you are never abandoned, and your every good deed, even the smallest, is seen and cherished by your Lord. So turn to Him with sincerity, seek His forgiveness, and let His watchful care fill you with peace and confidence, not fear. For He is the Most Merciful, ever ready to welcome back those who repent.
