Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Rasool" (رَسُولٌ): A messenger sent by Allah with a divine message, entrusted to convey His commands to creation.
- "Rabb al-'Alameen" (رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ): The Lord, Cherisher, and Sustainer of all the worlds — every being, creature, and realm that exists, from the highest heavens to the lowest earth, including angels, humans, jinn, and all of creation.
Tafsir (Explanation):
When Allah Almighty chose Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) and honored him with the mission of prophethood, He commanded him to go to Pharaoh — the tyrant who claimed divinity for himself and enslaved the Children of Israel. So Musa (peace be upon him) stood before Pharaoh with firmness, dignity, and complete reliance on Allah, and addressed him directly: *"O Pharaoh, indeed I am a messenger from the Lord of all the worlds."*
In this single, powerful statement, Musa (peace be upon him) established three fundamental truths: First, he declared his identity — he was not a magician, not a rebel, not a seeker of power, but a messenger sent with a divine mission. Second, he clarified the source of his authority — he came not from himself, not from any human institution, but from the Lord of all the worlds, the Creator and Owner of everything. Third, he addressed Pharaoh with respect, using his title "O Pharaoh," demonstrating the noble character of a prophet who calls to truth with wisdom and beautiful preaching, even when facing the most arrogant of tyrants.
The phrase "Lord of all the worlds" is particularly significant. It reminds Pharaoh — who claimed, *"I am your lord, the most high"* (79:24) — that there is a Lord far greater than him, a Lord who created Pharaoh himself, who sustains him, and who will one day call him to account. By saying "all the worlds," Musa (peace be upon him) expanded the horizon of faith beyond Egypt, beyond the Nile, beyond the earth itself — pointing to the infinite dominion of Allah, the One who has no partner, no rival, and no equal.
This verse teaches us a profound lesson: Truth must be spoken boldly, regardless of the power of the oppressor. Musa (peace be upon him) was alone, with only his brother Harun (Aaron) by his side, standing before the mightiest ruler of his time — yet he did not waver, did not soften the message, and did not fear Pharaoh's armies or his threats. His confidence came from his certainty that the One who sent him is the Lord of all worlds, and that no power on earth can stand against His will.
For us as believers, this is a call to place our trust in Allah above all else. When we stand for truth, when we speak against injustice, when we invite others to the path of Allah, we must remember that we are not alone — we are messengers of the Lord of all worlds, and He is with us, protecting us, and guiding us. Let this verse strengthen your heart: no matter how great the challenges you face, the One who sent you is greater still.
