Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, the Prophet Hud (peace be upon him) addresses his people, affirming the core qualities of a true messenger of Allah. He declares: "I convey to you the messages of my Lord" — meaning that he delivers exactly what Allah has commanded him to communicate, whether it relates to the oneness of Allah, His worship, or the laws and guidance He has revealed. He does not add anything from himself, nor does he omit anything, nor does he distort the divine message.
He then adds: "And I am to you a sincere advisor, trustworthy." This is a powerful statement that combines two essential attributes: sincerity (nuṣḥ) and trustworthiness (amānah) . His sincerity means that everything he calls them to — repentance, monotheism, and righteous conduct — is for their own benefit, not for any personal gain, status, or worldly interest. His trustworthiness means that he is a faithful carrier of the divine revelation, guarding it from any alteration, and his character among them was well-known for honesty and integrity before and after his prophethood.
This verse also carries a subtle but firm rebuttal to those who accused him of falsehood. By reminding them of his known character, he appeals to their own conscience: you know I am not a liar, and you know I have no selfish motive — so why do you reject the truth I bring?
Da'wah Reflection:
This verse teaches us a timeless lesson about the character of those who convey Allah's message. A true caller to Islam must embody both sincerity and trustworthiness. Sincerity means that our concern for people is genuine — we want what is good for them in this life and the Hereafter, not our own benefit. Trustworthiness means we convey the religion as it is, without distortion, exaggeration, or personal agendas. When people see that we are honest in our words and actions, and that we truly care for them, their hearts become more receptive to the truth. The Prophet Hud's approach reminds us that the most effective da'wah is built on character before words — when your integrity is established, your message carries weight. Let us strive to be people of sincerity and trustworthiness in all our dealings, so that our words and deeds become a means of guiding others to the light of Islam.
