Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Tamliku (تَمْلِكُ): To possess, own, or have power over something.
- Nafs (نَفْسٌ): A soul, a person, or a self.
- Shay'an (شَيْئًا): Anything, any matter, or any benefit.
- Al-Amr (الْأَمْرُ): The command, the affair, or the absolute authority.
Tafsir (Explanation):
On that Day—the Day of Judgment—no soul will have any power or ability to benefit another soul in the slightest way. No one will be able to intercede, help, or rescue another person from the consequences of their deeds. Every person will be entirely preoccupied with their own fate, and all means of assistance, influence, and connection that existed in this worldly life will be completely severed.
And on that Day, the absolute command, authority, and dominion belong solely to Allah—the One and Only, the Almighty. Just as He alone holds sovereignty over all affairs in this world, His exclusive authority becomes even more manifest and undeniable on that Day. No one will dare to intercede without His permission, no one will challenge His decree, and no one will share in His rule. He will judge with perfect justice, and His word will be final and absolute.
This verse serves as a profound reminder of the ultimate reality that awaits every soul. It strips away all illusions of self-sufficiency and worldly power, calling upon every human being to reflect deeply: if on that Day no one can help anyone, then what truly matters in this life? The answer is clear—our relationship with Allah, our deeds, and our preparation for that inevitable encounter.
Let this verse awaken your heart to the urgency of turning to your Lord while you still have time. The doors of repentance are open, and His mercy is vast. Do not wait until that Day when no help will avail you, but rather strive today to be among those whom Allah will honor with His grace and forgiveness. For truly, the wise are those who live with the awareness that all affairs ultimately return to Allah, and they prepare for that meeting with sincerity, faith, and righteous action.
