Word Meanings:

What deceived you or deluded you?
By your Lord, the Most Generous, the Most Bountiful.

Explanation of the Verse:

O human being who denies the resurrection and disobeys your Lord — what is it that has deceived you and made you bold enough to sin against your Lord, the Most Generous, the Most Bountiful? What has deluded you into thinking that you can neglect His commands, when He is the One who created you, perfected your form, and balanced your nature? He shaped you in the best of forms and equipped you to fulfill your purpose in this life. He did not create you in vain, nor did He leave you without guidance.

The One who is addressed here is every human being who has been beguiled by worldly desires and has forgotten the greatness of His Creator. The verse carries a tone of gentle yet profound rebuke — as if to say: How could you, O human, be so heedless of the One who has been so kind to you? How could you disobey the One whose generosity has no limits, who sustains you every moment, and who has given you countless blessings without you even asking?

The mention of His attribute "Al-Karim" (the Most Generous) is itself a reminder that His mercy precedes His punishment. He does not hasten to seize you for your sins; rather, He gives you time to repent, to turn back to Him, and to seek His forgiveness. This delay in punishment is not a sign of His neglect — it is a sign of His generosity and His desire for you to return to Him.

So let this verse awaken your heart: the One you disobey is the One who has been most kind to you. He is not a harsh master seeking to punish you; He is Al-Karim, the Generous, who opens the door of repentance to you at every moment. Do not let your sins make you despair, and do not let your heedlessness make you arrogant. Return to your Lord, for He is waiting for you with open arms of mercy.

This verse is a call to every soul to reflect: What is it that makes you turn away from the One who has given you everything? Is it wealth? Is it youth? Is it the whispers of Satan? None of these will last. But your Lord — Al-Karim — is Everlasting, and His generosity is beyond measure. Come back to Him before the Day when every soul will find what it has done, and He will reward you with His infinite bounty.

And when the [contents of] graves are scattered,
A soul will [then] know what it has put forth and kept back.
O mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Generous,
Who created you, proportioned you, and balanced you?
In whatever form He willed has He assembled you.
