Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "رَجْعِهِ" (Raj'ihi): His return — meaning bringing the human being back to life after death.
- "لَقَادِرٌ" (Laqadir): Certainly able — emphasizing absolute power and capability.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse comes as a powerful, decisive conclusion to the preceding verses that asked the disbeliever to reflect on his own origin: "So let man observe from what he was created. He was created from a fluid, ejected, emerging from between the backbone and the ribs." (86:5-7).
After drawing attention to the humble, weak beginning of every human being — a mere drop of fluid — Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) declares: "Indeed, He [i.e., Allah] is certainly able to return him [to life]."
The logic here is profound and irrefutable: The One who originated creation from nothing, who brought forth a living, breathing human being from a tiny drop of fluid, is certainly more than capable of bringing that same human being back to life after death. Re-creation is not more difficult than initial creation; in fact, it is easier. The power that designed the intricate miracle of human life from a humble beginning is the very same power that will resurrect all of humanity for the Day of Judgment.
This verse is a direct answer to those who deny the Hereafter, stripping away their excuses by pointing to the undeniable evidence of Allah's creative power within their own selves. If you acknowledge that you were once nothing and then became something, how can you deny that the One who did this can do it again?
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on this magnificent truth. Your very existence — from a drop of fluid to a walking, thinking, feeling human being — is a living testimony to the boundless power of your Creator. The same Allah who fashioned you in the womb, who gave you eyes to see, ears to hear, and a heart to know Him, has promised to bring you back. This is not a distant, abstract promise; it is the natural extension of His perfect power and justice.
So let this certainty fill your heart with hope and purpose. Know that your life is not a random accident ending in dust, but a purposeful journey toward a meeting with your Lord. The One who is able to return you to life is also able to reward your good deeds and hold you accountable for your choices. Embrace this truth, live with the awareness of His watchful eye, and let the certainty of your return draw you closer to Him. For indeed, He who created you from nothing is absolutely, undeniably able to bring you back.
