Explanation of the Verse:
Allah, the Most High, informs us that the resurrection, the gathering of all creation, and the establishment of justice on the Day of Judgment all occur for one profound purpose: so that He may repay every soul in full for what it has earned. This is not a random or unjust recompense—it is the perfect manifestation of divine justice. Every person will be faced with the record of their deeds: whoever did good in this world, whether in belief, worship, or kindness to others, will find the reward for that good preserved and multiplied by Allah's grace. And whoever did evil—through disbelief, oppression, or sin—will find that evil set before them, and they will be held accountable for it with perfect fairness, without any injustice or diminishment.
Then Allah emphasizes His attribute: "Indeed, Allah is swift in reckoning." This means that His accounting of all His creatures does not require time, effort, or delay as human reckoning does. He knows all things at once, and His justice is executed in an instant. Even if all of humanity and the jinn were to be gathered together, He would settle their accounts in a single moment, for nothing is hidden from Him, and nothing escapes His knowledge. This swiftness is a source of comfort for the believers—that their Lord will not delay in establishing justice—and a source of awe for the heedless, that the reckoning may come upon them suddenly.
This verse also carries a beautiful reminder: the life of this world is not the final chapter. Every soul is on a journey, and the destination is the court of Allah, where no deed is lost and no effort is wasted. The believer who strives in obedience can rest assured that their Lord sees their struggle and will repay them with the best of rewards. The one who indulges in sin should remember that the reckoning is near, and no excuse will avail them on that Day.
A Da'wah Reflection:
O servant of Allah, let this verse awaken your heart! Your Lord is not negligent, nor is He forgetful. Every prayer you prayed in the quiet of the night, every tear you shed in repentance, every act of kindness you extended to His creation—all of it is recorded, and your Lord has promised to repay you for it. And He is swift in reckoning, so do not think that your deeds are lost. At the same time, do not be deceived by the delay in punishment for sins, for the swiftness of His reckoning means that the Day may come upon you while you are unprepared. Turn to Him now, before that Day arrives, and make your account heavy with good deeds. Indeed, Allah is the Most Merciful, and He loves those who return to Him.
