وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُم مَّاذَا أَنزَلَ رَبُّكُمْ ۙ قَالُوا أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ ۝٢٤

Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

Asātīr (أساطير): Plural of *ustūrah*, meaning false tales, legends, or fables that have no basis in truth.
Al-Awwalīn (الأولين): The people of earlier times, i.e., the ancients or predecessors.

Explanation of the Verse:

When these polytheists—who deny the oneness of Allah and reject the resurrection—are asked, "What has your Lord revealed to Muhammad (peace be upon him)?" they do not answer with sincerity or reflection. Instead, they respond in mockery and falsehood, saying: "These are nothing but the fables of the ancients!" They claim that the Qur'an is merely a collection of old myths and legends, stories of bygone nations, and the fabrications of earlier peoples. They say this not because they have examined the revelation or found any flaw in it, but out of arrogance, stubbornness, and a desire to turn people away from the truth. Their answer reveals a heart sealed against guidance and a mind that refuses to ponder the profound wisdom and miraculous nature of the Qur'an.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, pause and reflect: How can the Qur'an—a book that challenges humanity to produce even a single chapter like it, a book filled with scientific truths, profound moral guidance, and a perfect legal system—be dismissed as mere "fables"? The disbelievers of Makkah knew the Prophet (peace be upon him) as *Al-Amīn* (the trustworthy) throughout his life; they never heard a lie from him. Yet when he brought them the truth, they turned to insults and mockery. This is the way of those who are not seeking truth but are enslaved by pride and tradition.

The Qur'an is not a story of the past; it is a living miracle that speaks to every generation. It heals hearts, illuminates minds, and guides humanity to eternal success. Do not let the mockery of the ignorant turn you away from the light. Open your heart to its message, and you will find in it the answers to your deepest questions and the peace your soul longs for. Allah says: *"And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy to remember, so is there any who will remember?"* (Al-Qamar: 17). The door of guidance is open—will you enter?

📜 Verse 22-26 — An-Nahl

22إِلَٰهُكُمْ إِلَٰهٌ وَاحِدٌ ۚ فَالَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْآخِرَةِ قُلُوبُهُم مُّنكِرَةٌ وَهُم مُّسْتَكْبِرُونَ

Your god is one God. But those who do not believe in the Hereafter - their hearts are disapproving, and they are arrogant.

23لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّونَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ ۚ إِنَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُسْتَكْبِرِينَ

Assuredly, Allah knows what they conceal and what they declare. Indeed, He does not like the arrogant.

24وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُم مَّاذَا أَنزَلَ رَبُّكُمْ ۙ قَالُوا أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ

And when it is said to them, "What has your Lord sent down?" They say, "Legends of the former peoples,"

25لِيَحْمِلُوا أَوْزَارَهُمْ كَامِلَةً يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ۙ وَمِنْ أَوْزَارِ الَّذِينَ يُضِلُّونَهُم بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ ۗ أَلَا سَاءَ مَا يَزِرُونَ

That they may bear their own burdens in full on the Day of Resurrection and some of the burdens of those whom they misguide without knowledge. Unquestionably, evil is that which they bear.

26قَدْ مَكَرَ الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ فَأَتَى اللَّهُ بُنْيَانَهُم مِّنَ الْقَوَاعِدِ فَخَرَّ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّقْفُ مِن فَوْقِهِمْ وَأَتَاهُمُ الْعَذَابُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ

Those before them had already plotted, but Allah came at their building from the foundations, so the roof fell upon them from above them, and the punishment came to them from where they did not perceive.
