The Tafsir (Explanation):
When you, O Messenger, are asked about how long the People of the Cave remained in their cave—and you have no revealed knowledge from Allah specifying this—do not venture into speculation or personal opinion. Instead, say: "Allah knows best how long they stayed." For He alone possesses the perfect and complete knowledge of all matters, whether apparent or hidden. He has informed you of their duration, and His word is the ultimate truth, leaving no room for anyone else's claim after His statement.
To Allah alone belongs the knowledge of the unseen in the heavens and the earth—everything that is concealed from human perception, whether in the vastness of the cosmos or the depths of the earth. How perfect is His sight! He sees every atom and every movement, no matter how minute. How perfect is His hearing! He hears every whisper and every secret, even the thoughts that pass through the heart. Nothing escapes His awareness, and no affair is hidden from His knowledge.
There is no protector for the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth besides Allah. No one can manage their affairs, rescue them from hardship, or grant them benefit except Him. And He does not share His judgment with anyone—no partner in His decree, no associate in His legislation, and no rival in His command. He alone decides, He alone rules, and He alone legislates for His creation.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse carries a profound lesson for every believer: true knowledge belongs to Allah alone, and our duty is to submit to His wisdom rather than argue over matters that are not essential to our faith. When we encounter questions we cannot answer, the most beautiful response is to say, "Allah knows best"—a statement of humility, trust, and reverence. This verse also fills the heart with awe: imagine a Lord whose sight encompasses everything and whose hearing captures every sound! How comforting it is to know that our affairs are in the hands of a Protector who leaves nothing to chance and shares His rule with no one. So, turn to Him with full reliance, for He is the One who sees your struggles, hears your prayers, and governs your destiny with perfect justice and mercy. Let this certainty strengthen your faith and draw you closer to the One who knows all and sees all.
